Okay, the full name of this Family Historian Plugin (Family Historian 5, 6, and 7) is “Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings via Windows 2.0” by Mark Draper, and it came out earlier this week. As you can see by the “version 2.0” it is a major update – several improvements and enhanced interface changes, as well as checking the existing backups before updating/restoring. A lot of work has went into this update, and this is a plugin that is highly recommended.
The plugin entry in the FH websote/Plugin Store is located here:
Backup and Restore Family Historian Settings via Windows – Plugin Store
It’s exactly what it sounds like – a way to back up and restore the custom settings and features of Family Historian such as other plugins, Custom Queries, Fact Sets, Language Packs, etc. using Windows scripts. You can use it if you are moving to a new PC/computer, or restoring your settings to your current PC. It is free.
Version 2.0 Changes/Updates – 16 December 2024
- Simplified restore without overwrite option (always restores in full)
- Simplified main menu reflecting this change
- Enhanced menu pop-up prompts
- Supports multi-monitor extended desktops
- Checks existing backups for completeness before updating or restoring
- Various corrections and enhancements to Unicode support
