The website for Cumberland Family Tree will be shutting down “within about a year” according to the developer. Cumberland Family Tree saw its last update, version 4.10, on March 21st, 2020 (it was a bug fix).
At the time, the author, Ira J. Lund, had this to say about it:
CFT is written in an obsolete programming language which will not run on newer Windows operating systems. This means that updating CFT is almost impossible. For CFT to continue it would need to be entirely rewritten in a more current programming language – an enormous effort! Thus CFT is a dying program, although it still runs fine on Windows 10.
It’s a shame, but thanks to Ira Lund for keeping the CFT website running for those folks who are still using it.
If you need to download a copy of CFT, it’s still available at Cumberland Family Software (cft-win.com).
