RootsMagic (RM) is developed and published by RootsMagic Inc., a genealogy software company founded by Bruce Buzbee, who has been developing genealogy software since the 1980s. Bruce originally created the genealogy program ‘Family Origins’ (developed through FormalSoft) and brings years of experience to RM. Since 2009, there has been a free version of RootsMagic, known as RootsMagic Essentials. Since RM 4, RootsMagic has used SQLite 3 as its database engine and third-party SQLite tools can read/view the RM data.
