Gigatrees 5.4.7 has been released, and it’s a major update. It’s a free Windows family tree website generator/program by Tim Forsythe that creates HTML-based websites (or local SQLite3 databases) from your GEDCOM files, and version 5.4.7 comes after a “two-and-a-half month programming spree”. The changelog and screenshots of the changes are at the bottom of this post.
Gigatrees is unique among online family tree generators, in that it supports an embedded blog within the website, or a standalone blog. A lot of us that have online trees usually have to have a standalone blog such as WordPress or even something more simple such as HTML pages in addition to whatever we are using for our tree (whether it be a online PHP or HTML-based tree). It also supports an embedded or standalone photo gallery, so it’s a more rounded website creator overall. It supports GEDCOM 5.0 to GEDCOM 7.0 +.
Given that Gigatrees uses GEDCOM files to generate your online (or offline) tree, Gigatrees supports hundreds of third-party GEDCOM tags, with the most common being Ancestry.com, followed by Family Tree Maker, MyHeritage, Legacy Family Tree, Family Historian, RootsMagic, Gramps, and Ye Olde Personal Ancestral File (PAF).
