There are always a lot of genealogy software updates that happen every month that don’t quite deserve their own mention (major updates/releases receive their own posts), but should be mentioned to give you an idea of the activity in the genealogy software community, so the “Genealogy Software Briefs” topic will cover them. Not sure if this will be a weekly or monthly series, it depends on the updates.
Note: iOS/iPadOS (iPhone, iPad) and Google Android updates, as well as browser extensions, need to be downloaded from their respective stores, so I don’t include links here. Also, it’s not uncommon for the version numbers and release dates between the same app on different platforms (iPhone vs Android) to be different or slightly off.
23andMe has been in the news a lot lately…..you can read more about the business “issues” at Kitty Cooper’s Blog – 23andMe Now and Then, but the mobile DNA app continues to be updated:

Ancestris v13, the cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linux) Java-based genealogy app received a September 28, 2024 “Under the Hood” update, namely cleaning up the code – download here.
Ancestry Academy, a free video tutorial mobile app (they state the videos and courses are free) showcasing Ancestry.com videos received a few updates.
