These are the “minor” genealogy software updates that have been released since last Sunday, December 1, 2024. The major update listed in this brief is iMeUsWe: Family Tree & Stories, the genealogy social media platform. They have improved the Communities Feature, making it easier to connect and engage with others sharing the same genealogical interests.
Looking ahead, Monday (December 9, 2024) should see a RootsMagic 10 update.
Otherwise, there were a surprising number of updates this past week, but not for the normal developers/publishers. A lot of developers here in the US had Thanksgiving week off (or part of it) which was around 2 weeks ago, and so there was nothing to release the following week (last week).
Normally when you are updating a program, you make the updates, and then there are additional days set aside for testing/quality assurance (although some of you may sometimes wonder just how much quality assurance is going on at times). After it’s tested, it’s put into the pipeline to be published on whatever medium the publisher/developer uses, whether that be a website or an app store (and app stores can sometimes add several days to the process). In theory, if you publish through your own website (or have an automatic update function in your program, you could push updates, bug fixes, optimizations, etc. out very quickly (even quicker if you feel confident enough to skip the testing) – we are talking just a few days, but normally there is testing and feedback.
Note: iOS/iPadOS (iPhone, iPad) and Google Android updates, as well as browser extensions, need to be downloaded from their respective stores. It’s not uncommon for the version numbers and release dates between the same app on different platforms (iPhone vs Android) to be different or slightly off. When the updates are the same between two platforms, the updates are only listed once.
If you don’t see an update to a particular genealogy app/program that you know received an update, that’s probably because received its own story, but if not – please contact us!
