Family Archives CD Go directly to the CD listing.

Below is a massive database of Family Archive CDs for Family Tree Maker. Family Archive CDs were an extensive collection of genealogical records distributed on CDs in the days when internet access was not widely available to most genealogists (outside of a library or business environment), and when online storage of such records was very expensive. The data (sources) were grouped by region, time period, or type of record (such as census or marriage records, or a state index). There were also FamilyFinder Index CDs which listed every name in the entire collection of CDs.

Note: The list below represents personal research I’ve done over the years, whether it’s viewing various CDs for sale on eBay (of which there are many) or reading through library catalogs, but I make no guarantees as to the accuracy of all items. Using eBay and other sources, I did try and put my eyes on actual images of the CD cases. I know there are lists of CDs out there, but many of them had very little information, or just a short listing. At some point, I may compare my lists to those lists and see what I am missing.

  • The archives were distributed by Broderbund and its Banner Blue Division, designed to be viewed with either with Family Tree Maker for Windows or Macintosh, or Family Archive Viewer (versions required are listed below). Copyright year is listed as year of release. Some were republished under Genealogy.com
  • The last version of Family Archive Viewer (FAV) was Family Archive Viewer 11.0 for Windows (Windows 95 and above), and it can be downloaded here: Archive.org.
  • Family Tree Maker (FTM) versions 4 through 16 (2006) can read all Family Archive CDs, Genealogy.com CDs, and World Family Tree (WFT) CDs.

You can start typing into the search below to find a CD. Hint: You can use state abbreviations and sort on the year.

This Family Archive contains listings of approximately 2,750,000 individuals who arrived in United States ports between 1538 and 1940. Compiled by Gale Research, these records can provide valuable family history information to those with immigrant ancestors. This information was collected from published passenger lists, naturalization records, church records, family and local histories, as well as voter and land registrations.

For each individual listed, you will find the following information:
• Name and age of immigrant
• Source code of immigration record
• Year and place of immigration
• Names of family members with whom they traveled
• Full source information

Explore new territory in your Ohio family research! This collection of scarce and difficult-to-find Ohio resources references nearly 163,000 individuals and gives you everything from detailed vital
records to the biographies that bring your Ohio research to life.

The seven titles reproduced here were originally published by the Genealogical Publishing Company and include a variety of records comprehensive in their coverage of early Ohio. Much of the importance of this collection stems from the fact that statewide registration of births, marriages, and deaths were not truly maintained until 1908.

This significant cross-section of genealogical resources includes: marriage records, cemetery inscriptions, genealogies, biographical sketches, tax lists, newspaper abstracts, and vital records.
