rootstrust version 2, Build 417

Last week saw a new release of the Java-based genealogy program, rootstrust, updated to rootstrust Version 2, Build 417. This build brings a major new feature – a Wiki View that provides a profile/page inspired by WikiTree.

rootstrust runs on Linuxs, macOS, Windows, and ChromeOS, and can be run off of a flash drive on just about any computer.

Full list of changes are at the bottom of this post (screenshots here).

If you are curious about it, you can look through the feature list: Features | rootstrust

Existing users can download it here (it is a commercial program that must be purchased): Download | rootstrust

Note- Existing Users:

If you have already installed rootstrust, Build 416, you do not need to download the install build 417, it, unless you want to. Instead download and install the latest rootsTrust.jar file. You will find the appropriate menu entries under More.

If you have not done a full install since Build 414 and you intend to move your database to a cloud-based PostgreSQL server, you must do a complete install first.

rootstrust, Version 2, Build 417 – November 6, 2024
General
Build 417 contains corrections and enhancements to Build 416.
Enhancements
Wiki View. The Wiki View was inspired by WikiTree.com. While at first glance it
looks almost identical to the WikiTree website, further inspection shows that
there are significant differences:
— rootstrust is still a genealogy program (desktop), not a website
— rootstrust distinguishes between documents and photo images
— the Wiki View must conform to existing rootstrust architecture, including the Source Reference functionality (you can’t just link everything to everything).
“The Wiki View offers the rootstrust user an alternative means of looking at data. The legacy rootstrust display delivers detailed information about each Person, however one must frequently change views or display subordinate forms to see the desired information. The Wiki View, on the other hand, offers less
information, but displays it in manner that requires less mouse clicking and screen changing. The preview feature, invoked via hovering the mouse cursor over a name, allows the user to inspect the data of related individuals without changing the current Person.”
Under Wiki View, the left panel of the Profile tab contains:
— Summary – Person’s name, dates, key events
— Biography – Biographical notes, Sources
— Memories –
— Comments

The right panel contains:
— Edit (not implemented yet)
— Photographs
— Documents
Enanced Ancestor View – Includes a thumbnail photo of each ancestor.
