Findmypast 2.8.0 – iOS (and Android)

The iOS/iPadOS app for the Findmypast service was updated a few days ago (Dec. 12) to Findmypast 2.8.0 with a major new and interesting feature – “Collections”:

Discover newspaper stories through the eyes of other researchers. Collections are curated sets of clippings that show how different articles connect to tell a broader historical story. They’re the perfect way to explore new paths in your family research and see how others piece together historical narratives.

Thanks to Jan Murphy on BlueSky it looks like it’s available to Android users as well with Findmypast v2.21.0 which was released earlier this month!

I’m very intrigued to see how this plays out, but it will probably take some time. I could definitely see myself using this feature, as I have collections of newspaper clippings/articles that are related to one another and do in fact tell a story over time (illnesses, family visits, etc.).

You will have to download it through the Apple iOS App Store.

Android Users: I am not sure if this feature is live in the Android version of Findmypast – it still shows Findmypast v2.21.0 from December 4, 2024. Unfortunately the Google Play store doesn’t have an easy way to see release notes/history. Findmypast for iOS jumped from 2.7.2 (released in November) to 2.8.0 with this release, and so it’s possible that v2.21 does include the Collections feature.
