HRE Update – November Roots Users Group Annual Meeting

On November 9, 2024, at the RUG (Roots Users Group of Arlington, VA) Annual Business Meeting and Elections, there is a presentation that should be of interest to a lot of people, particularly former users of “The Master Genealogist” (TMG) Windows genealogy program, but also those genealogists who are curious about new and upcoming genealogy software.

There’s not a lot on the RootsUsers.org website, just this announcement:

9:10 am (approximately) “HRE Update – Live! from Australia” presented by Don Ferguson

Keep in mind that the last update was in April of this year (you can view it at the RootsUsers.org website, under the “RUG Meeting Presentations” on the left side of the website.

If you are not familiar with HRE, a group of TMG users in 2016 started development of a cross-platform, open-source project, Java-based project, the History Research Environment (HRE), which is meant to import all TMG data correctly, and to provide a way forward for TMG users (TMG development ceased just over 10 years ago):

You can research multiple areas (objects, places) and not just people. It aims to have most, if not all, of the functionality of TMG in a modern package, and will import TMG data directly. You can view screens here:
