Heredis 2025 is now out, and it marks the 30th anniversary of the cross-platform (Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS) genealogy database software. The Heredis team considers this to be the most extensive upgrade they’ve ever released to the Heredis line, and to celebrate 30 years, they have handed “30 innovations”.
Heredis (the company) is based out of France, and has been developing and publishing genealogy software since 1994, with English-language versions of its software being published since 2012.
Below is a very brief list of the highlights (and I’ll dig deeper into these in the near-future), but for the full list and to see photos/videos, visit the new feature page for the desktop versions at:

New in Heredis 2025
- Flags – Mark people, events, media, and facts with flags. Privacy is respected – if a flag is defined as a “Private flag”, it will not be exported. Flags are customizable – you can tag all people who took part in a war, or who carry a disease that can be passed down through a family, or direct-line ancestors, religions, label people or families that you have covered certain research for, etc.
- Detect isolated branches – One click and you can see all isolated persons and branches in your genealogy file, allowing you to flag duplicates or process them later.
- Birthdays widget – see birthdays among current and past family members.
- Location Trees – highlight places important to your ancestors (birthplaces, marriage and death places) using color coding
- New types of events – Specifically designed events can have specifically designed items, such as “succession deed” and “notarial deed”.
- Immediate Family – parents/grandparents marriage information is clearly displayed in the Immediate Family view.
- Tiny Tree – Tiny trees are included in the summary
