The Legacy Family Tree-centric mobile genealogy app Families (for iPad/iOS and Android) saw a couple of updates this week. Families is a companion to the desktop genealogy program Legacy Family Tree from Millenia Corp./MyHeritage. The changes were mainly bug fixes, but the ability to edit and delete “Roles” was added.
Families supports Legacy Family Tree 6, 7, 8, 9, and presumably Legacy Family Tree 10 when it is released (some updates appear to support beta functionality), and allows you to have multiple Legacy Family Tree databases on your phone or tablet (or iPod touch), as well as working with GEDCOM files, and it acts as a mobile version of Legacy Family Tree. It is a paid genealogy app ($14.99 USD, both platforms).
Families 3.6.0 for iOS/iPadOS was released on March 12, 2024, and Families 3.6.1 was released today, March 14, 2024. Prior to 3.6.0, the last time that Families was updated was in May of 2023.
Families 3.6.1 for Google’s Android OS was released yesterday (March 13, 2024) and has the same changes as 3.6.1 for iOS/iPadOS – kudos to Malcom Green/TelGen Limited for keeping the version numbers the same between platforms!
You can download the update through your phone’s or tablet’s app store, or access it at the link below (it will still launch the App Store)
- iOS/iPadOS: Families on the App Store (apple.com)
- Android: Families – Apps on Google Play
Android users – you will need to download a utility – Families Sync (Families Sync | Families (telgen.co.uk)) from telgen, and iOS/iPadOS users, you will need to use iTunes or Finder to transfer the data files into Families.
