WikiTree Browser Extension 1.20 – 1.21

Between August and last week, there were some major updates to the WikiTree Browser Extension for the Safari, Firefox, and Chrome web browsers, running across multiple hardware platforms. These updates are available across all three browser platforms.

The biggest changes, in WikiTree Browser Extension 1.20, concerned “unnamed infants”, as well as other functions around entering people who passed away at an early age. In 1.20.1 it was mainly bug fixes for the UI, and in 1.21, it is mainly about cleaning up the interface/menu.

The WikiTree Browser Extension is a browser add-on meant to enhance “your WikiTree browsing, reading, and editing experience.” It allows you to change how the WikiTree website and the various pages/trees look, and it supports over 75 features. As I’ve said before, if you are a serious WikiTree user, it’s highly recommended.

Changes in WikiTree Browser Extension 1.20. (August 1, 2024)
– ‘Unnamed Infant’ is now ‘Childless’.
— Existing function:
— Checks for unnamed infants to add the standard first name (Unnamed Infant) and the Died Young sticker, and to check the ‘No spouses’ and ‘No children’ boxes.
— New functions:
— Adds Died Young sticker to all people who died young (under 16).
— Automatically checks No Spouse and No Children boxes for children who died under 13.
— Offers to check the No Spouse and No Children boxes on profiles over 6 months old with no spouses or children.
Date Fixer: You can now paste a string such as “17 Aug 1847 in Hinterzarten, Baden, Germany” into a birth/death/marriage date box and have the location part of it magically appear in the relevant location box.
