SmartCopy Browser Extension for Geni

I’m a big fan of browser extensions/add-ons/plugins for genealogy websites, and SmartCopy is another browser extension you should look at if you do a lot of genealogy research online as most of us do.

SmartCopy is a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, Opera, and Microsoft Edge for Geni users that can help you copy and update information (and profiles) from various online genealogical resources, as well as providing consistency checking on Geni.com profiles, and access to research and other browser-based HistoryLink tools. There are some restrictions relating to tree-building (copying of relatives), but check the main page below (it relates to curator permissions, etc.).

Supported genealogy resources that can be copied into your Geni information:

  • MyHeritage Data (Matches/Search)
  • MyHeritage Genealogies
  • Billion Graves (Smart Matches)
  • Find A Grave
  • WikiTree Genealogies
  • WeRelate Genealogies
  • RootsWeb WorldConnect Genealogies
  • Ancestry Genealogies
  • FamilyTreeMaker Genealogies
  • FamilySearch.org Genealogies / Records
  • Geneanet Genealogies
  • The Next Generation of Genealogy Sitebuilding (TNG)

At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a screenshot from MyHeritage with the browser extension enabled, as well as a how-to video.

SmartCopy v4.10.29 from September 7, 2024, is the newest version for Firefox. SmartCopy 4.11.3.1 from September 11, 2024 is the newest version for Chrome. I don’t have any release notes showing what’s been added/improved lately.
