Saturday Spotlight: Genealogy Assistant for Google Chrome

I’m a huge fan of browser extensions helping to fix or enhance the use of various genealogy websites and services, and Dan Maloney at Genea.ca has released several new features for his Genealogy Assistant for Google Chrome over the past few weeks (changelog at the bottom of the page), so I’d like to feature it as one of the spotlight features this week.

If you’re not familiar with it, it’s a Chrome browser extension that adds dozens of customization and new features to Ancestry, MyHeritage, and FamilySearch websites inside of the Google Chrome browser as you browse those sites, and allows you to customize and organize those pages. He’s put together a 10-minute video highlighting nearly everything that Genealogy Assistant has to offer:

Genealogy Assistant for Google Chrome... in 10 minutes!

It adds everything from screenshot tools to DNA tools for Ancestry and MyHeritage, to research tools, and its strengths seem to be for those using one of the Ancestry.com genealogy services – a lot of features too numerous to list here (watch the video above), but for those who like their spreadsheets and DNA matches, he’s recently enhanced that functionality.

You can see the CSV capabilities in the separate video below:

Over on reddit, he posted a long thread covering everything, and mentioned this discount/promo deal for those interested in it:

The extension has a 7-day free trial but I have a coupon code to share which will give you 3 months free so you can really test drive the extension to see how it can help with your own research. To use the coupon code, select “Upgrade” from the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel, choose the $1.99 per month plan and enter in the coupon code “3FREE”. Here is a screenshot which highlights the spot to add the coupon code:

It’s free during a 7-day trial, but he’s provided the coupon above for three free months, and then $1.99 per month or $15.99 per year (USD) after that. These kinds of extensions can save you a lot of time, so they are worth looking into.
